Hi, I’m Erica Wendel-Oglesby and currently work in three mediums: mosaics, jewelry design and creation, and photography. I live and create art in my studios in Placitas and Taos, New Mexico.

At a young age, I started to make my own jewelry. After receiving a point and shoot camera, animals were my favorite image to capture and it never stopped. In elementary school, I took weaving classes at a museum, then created and sold woven chokers.  During middle school age, I enjoyed throwing pots. While my parents were out of the country, I attended Kingswood Cranbrook Schools taking weaving and jewelry making classes as part of my junior year in high school. The next year, upon returning to my former high school for my senior year, I volunteered to teach my jewelry making class when the jewelry teacher took a leave of absence. As a result, an Art Achievement award was awarded to me my senior year.

After a fulfilling thirty-one plus year career in healthcare quality and process improvement, I retired and found myself overwhelmed with artistic ideas. In 2014, I started showing my photography and within a few years had branched out to one-of-a-kind jewelry and nature mosaics.

One common thing in my life was immersion in nature – the woods, forests, beaches, deserts and my own gardens- while living in Ohio, Michigan, Florida, Saudi Arabia, London, Bahamas, Arizona, Minnesota and New Mexico. Colorful subjects and textures are a favorite of mine. I love using my hands to create!

I have sold my work at the Placitas Studio Tour and the Taos Studio Tour for the past eleven years and five years, respectively.
